About Stanbridge Out of School Club

Stanbridge Out of School Club was started by Mrs Jayne Uren over 17 years ago, when she recognised that an increasing number of pupils of Stanbridge primary school needed wrap around care and there being no immediate provision meant parents found it difficult to juggle school schedules and work, or were unable to return to work after their children started school. The club has grown since then, moving from a bespoke Elliot Building on the school grounds that could provide care for up to 30 pupils, into the school hall that can accommodate the 55 we have today.

There are around 150 Stanbridge pupils who use the club in a mix of days and sessions. The club offers two such types of session; breakfast club from 7:45am Mon-Fri, and after school club from 3:20 until 6pm Mon-Fri. Both sessions have a range of games and activities for the children to do, as well as providing a range of breakfast options in the morning, and snacks in the afternoon.

All staff are DBS checked, qualified to look after children in a care provision setting, and undergo a range of training to help them provide the best care possible, from first aid to safeguarding. We also have specialist provision in some of our staff in that they hold dual roles with the school as teaching assistants (TAs) or lunchtime supervisors. This means that in some cases they have additional expertise in areas such as specialist education needs (SEN), or in catering and cooking. But it also means that they all know the pupils who use the club really well as they see them throughout the day - so they get to know how each child plays best, who they get on with (and even, as all us parents know, what to look out for and how they respond to different niggles).

The club is regulated by Ofsted (reports and status available here), and is governed by a board of volunteer trustees through the club operating as a charity. This board is chaired, and has a secretary, treasurer, non-role bearing trustees, and staff representation. We are overseen by and report our financial status and other elements of the business to the Charity Commission, and work closely with the school and its leadership team to provide the best possible care and service to pupils and parents.

The OSC is a charity run by a board of appointed trustees. Along with the OSC committee, we oversee the strategic management of the charity and make key decisions around expenditure and club activities.

The board normally meets once a term, and any parent/carer of a child at the club can attend the meetings. If you are interested in becoming a Trustee (which requires a DBS check – all fees paid by the Club – and an EY2 check), please contact the Chair of Trustees at: StanbridgeOOSC2022@outlook.com
